MAKE THE ADVENTURE LAST
Upcycling the best materials
At Artefact, we make bags and accessories from technical materials from the outdoor industry: kitesurf wings, Zodiac fabric, climbing ropes, neoprene wetsuits…
These materials were originally designed to withstand the toughest conditions: wind, salt, UV, abrasion.
Yet at the end of their life, 0% of these products are recycled. Rather than destroying them, we give them a second life.
Partners of choice
We work with several major outdoor brands such as Patagonia, The North Face and Arc'teryx to give some of their technical gear a second life.
Despite their incredible quality, some of these products end up beyond repair or unusable: irreversible defects, after-sales returns, prototypes, production offcuts…
Rather than destroying them, these brands choose to entrust them to us. We recover the materials that still perform and turn them into new products.
It's a concrete way to extend the life of technical materials while keeping them from becoming waste.
Products designed to last
Every Artefact product is designed to be tough, functional and repairable.
Our approach is simple:
- Sourcing: we recover unused or end-of-life technical materials (jackets, kite wings, down jackets, production offcuts...)
- Preparation: these materials are sorted, cleaned and cut by social-integration companies or ESATs (sheltered workshops) in France.
- Manufacturing: the materials are then assembled into new products in partner workshops. They are experts in making technical products and are based in Portugal (80%), France (15%) and Slovakia (5%).
The result: tough, unique and durable bags and accessories, designed for everyday use as much as for adventure.
Upcycling, the future standard
Every year the outdoor industry produces tonnes of technical materials that are hard to recycle. At Artefact, we chose another path: upcycling.
Unlike recycling, which transforms materials chemically and uses a lot of energy and water, we directly reuse existing technical materials, keeping their performance.
This lets us:
_ Extend the life of materials that already exist
_ Avoid making new materials
_ Create unique products with a story
A passionate team
Artefact was born when outdoor and product-design enthusiasts got together.
Sailing, riding, travelling and repairing our own gear, we kept running into a simple reality: even the most technical gear ends up being set aside one day, sometimes for a minor defect, sometimes because it can no longer be repaired.
Rather than see it destroyed, we started recovering these materials and turning them into bags and accessories. What began as an experiment among friends gradually became a company.
Today our team brings together complementary profiles: designers, product developers and outdoor sports enthusiasts, all with the same idea in mind: designing tough, useful products while giving technical materials a second life.
